Quality teaching starts with a great design

Learning design … education design … instructional design – they’re fancy terms describing similar types of work.

I use the term learning design in my practice. It’s learner centered and speaks of the outcomes we’re wanting to achieve: deep, meaningful learning that engages people, and most of all, lasts.

What is learning design?

Learning design is a deliberate process with a purpose. It’s about creating effective interactions between learners, educators, environments and fields of learning. It puts learners and learning at the centre, while working efficiently within the goals and constraints of the learning environment and the education provider.

  • goes beyond ‘delivery’ and “what do I have to teach?”
  • supports the benefits, fulfilment and fun of learning
  • involves learners through active learning
    creates engaging learning environments
  • brings static content to life
  • focusses on meaningful learning outcomes
  • helps learners collaborate and communicate.
